THE ISSUES

Since Dean Fisher was elected in 2012, Iowa's public spending has been slashed to just 70% of the overall state income, having devastating impacts on programs that support critical programs for rural Iowa. Most states are spending around 95% of their income to ensure that their residents can not only survive, but thrive. Our District's residents and the landscape are struggling not only to thrive, but even to survive. Tommy's priorities all center around running Iowa's government like a responsible business - using our state income to reinvest in programs that result in thriving small towns and family farms to make sure that Iowa can remain the "Fields of Opportunity" for the next generations. All three of these priorities are interconnected to form a vibrant Iowa for all.

Public Education

Public education is the foundation of a civic-minded population. In the 1990s, Iowa was in the top 5 in education - today, we rank 41 out of 50. I will stand tall to support our teachers and invest in positive learning experiences for children of all backgrounds.

Small Business and Farms

Iowa is home to many small businesses as well as many major massive out-of-state corporations. Growing small businesses means more money and more jobs stay in Iowa's communities. I will promote programs that support small business development and challenge corporate control.

2

Critical Resource Access

There are many people struggling to get by through no fault of their own. I believe in people's right to good food, medical care, and housing regardless of any pre-existing conditions or hoops to jump through. I will stand tall for food and housing access for all.
